Preview

The publishing house KnowWare is releasing its first collection of photography books with Voir naître le talent. This new collection aims to present the work of promising young French photographers. The first two titles (available in bilingual French-English editions) are Rêvalités by Julie de Waroquier and En attendant le facteur by Alain Laboile, available in bookstores starting November 14.

«Dreamalities » Julie de Waroquier
I didn’t sleep well last night. My dream didn’t work. I had planned to leave the lands of rationality in order to drown myself into a cloud. But I ended up sinking deep down inside me to be washed up in front of the realities that we usually try to switch off when the night comes. The kind of realities that we even try to smother, so that it doesn’t rekindle the following morning. Finally, in the darkness of a night without stars, rocked by this premonitory sinking, I couldn’t do anything but stare at the world as it appears to us in broad daylight. It’s striking how the most inspired dreamers are caught by reality and relentlessly enrolled in its sad truth.
Unless. Unless the battle lasts by taking place in an unsuspected impetuous mind. That of Julie de Waroquier was precisely such a suitable loam for an insatiable duality. Chimeras and realities were quite aware of that when they decided to take up residence together. And still nowadays every won victory has to infringe the rule of the implicit parlay.

When we close this picture book, the obviousness doesn’t pretend. Julie de Waroquier definitely isn’t done tracking her fears. And fortunately, a few splinters won’t be enough to stop her in her quest. Besides, when you take a closer look, her photographs reveal the powerful desire that deep down we have to keep the world’s contradictions under control and to regularly caress the gentle dream that life is more beautiful than it seems to be.
Among all the illusions that fill the pages of this book with life, this one is undoubtedly the most realistic.
