Denis has just left us for the photographers’ paradise. It is from haven that he can cast his mocking glance at the proper use of his works, which he had taken care to freeze in their definitive appearances, in limited numbers. He was right to do so, when we see the plethora of prints of his celestial companions, and the catastrophic exploitations made, post mortem, of their original creations without an ounce of inspiration. That said, as long as there are “suckers” to pick up at exorbitant prices works without any value (neither artistic nor technical), why shouldn’t the rights holders and other dubious intermediaries take advantage of them!
This little preamble would not have displeased you, dear Denis. Thank you for having anticipated your earthly afterlife and for having blocked, as much as possible, the possible ideas of multiplying your works according to the hunger of a few survivors. It is very good that yours allow you, for the moment, to remain in the circle of good and clear-sighted photographers.
This tribute, in your Provençal homeland, simply displays some of your iconic prints, among other sincere works from around the world. We often discover your artist’s proofs, the result of hours of work, research, and creations, with your brilliant touch that changes everything. Each of the original works, hung on the gallery walls, expresses itself through a graphic simplicity that extracts the quintessence of a potential dialogue. Millimeter-precise masses invade our visual perception. In another image, the space is left to the original silver chromatic subtlety, tinged with those tones whose apogee you mastered so well. Your photographs all bear the small gene of a complete photographer, a great creator of lights and other magic powders.
This interim period is a tribute, with your feet still firmly on the ground for your loved ones and friends, and your head already in the heavens. This allows us to exchange a few more winks before your entry into the pantheon of artists. On this day, when colleagues and friends, … we will give you some Thou…
