The Jackson Fine Art gallery is presenting Colourshape and Alphabet Book, the two most recent series by Tierney Gearon.
Following a career in commercial photography and a major change in her life, Gearon made her children the focus of her work.
In Colourshape, first exhibited at this year’s Paris Photo Los Angeles, the photographer placed her children and pets in colorful, homemade, plexiglass structures, teleporting the familiar into a strange space and time, allowing viewers to appreciate the beauty of being in the moment..
In Alphabet Book, we witness the delicious tyranny of children. The artist puts her world order to the test by letting her children run things for a change. The resulting series is as spontaneous and joyful as childhood.
« The book is a complete friend-family collaboration, made with my two youngest children and their friends. It is a playful book — what I call an art book for children, or a children’s book for adults. », Tierney Gearon
Tiernay Gearon is based in Los Angeles. Since her controversial debut, Gearon has been pushing the envelope of contemporary photography. Tierney has been exhibited at many prominent galleries and museums including, Gagosian Gallery, Yossi Milo, Ace Gallery, The Parrish Art Museum, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Phillips de Pury & company in London.
