Since its opening in 2013, the Tignous Contemporary Art Center has hosted artists in residence for six months. The center accompanies their project as a support for innovative and experimental artistic expressions that are based on the territory of Montreuil ( Paris suburb) and its publics.
The BABEL project tells us about human exchanges, the meeting of a town and its inhabitants, in a visual and sound way. Exchange is conversation, commerce, communication, the export of ideas. It is also the action of addressing oneself, of sending each other things, gift and counter-gift, reciprocity and even mutuality.
The idea is to show in a primitive and almost animal way, this living and moving space that induces the exchange between these urban humans all different. We will feel the emotions and the flow of contacts. It is a time suspended between tranquility and tension, between violence and sensuality, between tangible and abstract, ritual and physical improvisation. It is this space between beings which is to be discovered and be seen.
This artistic research will be declined with capture of sounds, videos, photographs, on all the territory of Montreuil.
For several years now, Tina Merandon has been conducting a personal research on relationship with the other, putting the exchange as the subject at the center of her work. Montreuilloise for seventeen years, this theme on human exchange in the urban universe is recurrent in her body of work.
Tina Merandon is in residence at the Tignous Center until June.
