The second edition of the Usimages Biennale features ten exhibitions organized by the Agglomération Creil Sud Oise, France, under the artistic direction of Diaphane, Pôle photographique in Picardy. The event aims at exploring the memory of industries and spotlight human labor.
The events program offers a cross-section of artists who photograph the world of industry, transforming it over time into heritage in its own right. The exhibitions are on display at different locations: outdoors (Île Saint-Maurice in Creil; Parc Urbain du Prieuré and the Coulée Verte in Montataire; the Japanese Garden in Nogent-sur-Oise; Base de Loisirs in Saint-Leu d’Esserent; Parc de la Brèche in Villier-Saint-Paul), in public venues (Maison du Projet “Gare Coeur d’Agglo” in Creil; the Sarcus Centre d’Affaire et d’Innovation Sociale in Nogent-sur-Oise), as well as in cultural sites (Espace Matisse in Creil; Maison de la Pierre du Sud in Oise à Saint-Maximin; and at the art gallery of the Marcelin Berthelot middle school in Nogent-sur-Oise).
People at work in their workplace and the relationship between humans and their machines or work tools are the unifying threads of this edition of the festival which takes the form of exhibitions of historical photographs from archival collections, contemporary photographs, and images on loan from the Creillois basin.
“The diverse perspectives offered by the exhibitions in the biennale will encourage questions and foster reflection on the role of images in establishing a media ideology,” explained the Diaphane team, Pôle photographique in Picardy.
