The 50 years anniversary of the Rolling Stones gave way to a plethora of exhibitions around the world. As the band tour arrives in Philadelphia this week the Calderwood Gallery opens an exhibition of over a hundred photographs all from their collection. Gary Calderwood, a classically trained photographer himself (he studied with two masters, Minor White and Ansel Adams), has pursued a lifelong interest in fine photography and assembled these over many years.
In the words of his wife Janet Calderwood: “You may think It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll, but it’s the greatest Rock ‘n Roll band ever, and Calderwood Gallery Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. You will get plenty of Satisfaction from these works by celebrated photographers Cecil Beaton, Mark Seliger, Sante D’Orazio, Ken Regan, Ron Galella and others. Iconic images used in Vogue and Rolling Stone . Also some that will leave you Shattered. Wild Horses shouldn’t keep you away because there isn’t A Bigger Bang.”
All of the photographs are original vintage portrait and performance prints. The photography exhibition is enhanced by carefully curated Stones’ memorabilia from past tours like Tattoo You, Voodoo Lounge, No Security, Exile on Main Street, and Bridges to Babylon.
