Photographer Thierry Le Gouès was born in Brest, France in 1964 and lives in Paris. At the age of 22, Thierry began his career as a fashion photographer in 1986 working for Conde Nast.
His fashion, documentary, and editorial photography has appeared in publications internationally including Vogue and l’Uomo Vogue, Lei, Per Lui, Amica, and Marie Claire in Italy; Glamour, Vogue Homme International, and Vogue in France; Arena, Vogue, i-D., The Face, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle in England; and Harper’s Bazaar, Allure, Detour, Interview, Vogue, W, and Flaunt in the United States.
Thierry Le Gouès is one of the founders of the magazine “French – Revue de Modes”.
His style is solid and essential, extremely straightforward, recognizable, classic. Figuratively speaking, Thierry’s style may serve as a model for its immediacy and openness of contents; an ethic, more than an aesthetical, principle, that the photographer has made very clear through the course of his career.
“Not only do opposites attract but they also make for attractive images”. The powerful images created by the contrast between the subject and the backdrop are remarkable. In ‘Soul,’ Thierry Le Goues keeps it simple with ebony-skinned models and a snow white backdrop. In ‘Amazones,’ dedicated to the iconic Paco Rabanne, the contrast is provided by the metallic pieces draped across the models’ bodies.
“Havana Boxing Club” gathers eight years of black-and-white photographs documenting amateur boxing. Impassioned, accurate, even touching, this compelling compendium exposes the viewers to these fighters’ courage, steadfast champions full of life, hope and sacrifice.
