In her experimental fashion and fine art photography, Elizaveta Porodina, based in Germany, travels through time and space, extracting the underlying emotions in her entrancing images.
Growing up in post-Soviet Russia, Elizaveta’s early years were impacted by the brutalist buildings in Moscow and her mother who introduced art to her mind. Her background as well as her interest in emotional behavior led her to study clinical psychology.
Elizaveta’s striving towards greater understanding of herself, her environment and others, informed her move to photography. It became a frame that allows to stimulate the mind by showing, rather than by speaking.
Art became and still is an inevitable, and inseparable, part of her. Stored in her subconscious, art is what became the extension and expression of “her self”, implying that every single one of her photographs is a self portrait.
“I realize how precious and invaluable the moments of pure raw emotion and inspiration can become… I want my images to be a sort of oasis, maybe a place of comfort and visual delight, and finally, a mirror.”
Dreams becoming reality is a familiar concept in a creative field like fashion yet Elizaveta is taking things deeper than surface level. Her work is an introspective glimpse into her subject’s psyche and with elements of repetition like her signature shadows and broken mirrored reflections.
She collaborates with Jean-Paul Gautier, Dior, Carolina Herrera, Jo Malone, Zara, American Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue France, The Face, SSAW, Perfect, Numero, Time Magazine and Dazed among others.
