Teheran: Awakening world awards

Preview

On June 11, 2012, the Contemporary Art Museum of Teheran hosted the “Awakening World Awards” closing ceremony. This international contest open to photographers and designers features a cash reward.

The first prize of 10,000 Euros was attributed to Hossein Fatemi (Iran) for a story on the war in Afghanistan.

The second prizes were attributed to:
Ivor Prickett (UK) for a story on the events in Egypt
Ashley Gilbertson (USA) occupy wall street
Mahmoud Basdar (Iran) War
David Montoleone (Italy)

For information, more than 3500 students graduate with photography and photo journalist degrees from Iranian schools and universities.

With the sanctions on Iran, it is particularly complicated and difficult for the students to obtain travel visas, crippling their movement despite their yearning for international recognition.
Their stories are particularly moving.

The organizers of this international contest hope to turn it into an international event.
