Steve McCurry for Reporters sans Frontières

Preview

For more than thirty years, Steve McCurry, with his sense of color and light, has made his work a reference point in the world of photography. Born in Philadelphia, he left the United States for India in 1978, the first of many trips to come. In 1979, he snuck into rebel-controlled Afghanistan and documented the lives of its Mujaheddin. In 1985, while working for National Geographic, he took what is perhaps his most famous portrait, an Afghan girl with green eyes named Sharbat Gula.

As a member of Magnum since 1986, McCurry has covered conflicts in Lebanon, Cambodia, the former Yugoslavia and the Gulf.

Reporters Without Borders is proud to devote the pages of its new album to Steve McCurry, presenting 100 of his most beautiful photographs taken in Afghanistan over the course of thirty years.

On the occasion of its collection’s 20th anniversary, Reporters Without Borders is reviving its publishing project. This issue focuses on artistic creation in Eastern Europe.
