Quo vadis homo? – Coronavirus

I have been working with photomontage for over 50 years. The motifs developed are largely satirical, socio-politically engaged, and are often executed in the spirit of science fiction.

Earlier this year (2020) I created over 40 photomontages, collages focusing on the theme of Coronavirus.

In the first set of digital compositions, I highlight the greedy-horny homo sapiens who dive into waves epitomised by nihilism and decadence. Unfortunately, we have witnessed an outbreak of physical, spiritual and visual violence. Militarism, racism, drugs, tattoos, kitschy graffiti, zoofilia, outrageous fashion, the irrepressible pollution of the natural environment and the hollowing out and consequent crumbling of the globe, together they point to, foretell the Apocalypse.

In the second part I deal with this sinister pandemic. It is truly a tragedy, not a source of fun and humour, but a horrific occurrence of the most grotesque of natures, where honest, innocent earthlings (people of the earth) are dying.

The moral and ethical values of modern civilisation are, unfortunately, highly alarming, which, however, was also evident, albeit in a somewhat milder form, during much of the post-war era, throughout the second half of the previous century. This, I constantly drew attention to, reminded people through my multimedia confessions (in the form of satirical drawings, photomontage, collages, various assemblies and journalism). A cry in the desert !

My various engagements with these concerns and the media employed, together with the motivation that has driven my research, is well represented in a comprehensive portfolio of my work at stane-jagodic.com , and in an array of publications.

What’s more, the entire material collection lays deposited in a closed concrete warehouse in Ljubljana’s underground. Quarantine !
