Analyzing garbage to understand consumer and social behavior? Bruno Mouron and Pascal Rostaing photographed the trashcans of celebrities. After “scavenging” the garbage of Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson and Madonna, the photographers turned towards art world figures like Pierre Soulages, Louise Bourgeois and Jeff Koons. Now their focus is strangers across the world—Qatar, Tahiti, China—from wealthy suburbs to favelas. This 25-year project has resulted in a number of revealing, intimate pictures in Autopsie, which will be on display from May 1st to October 31st, 2015, at the French Pavillion of the Milan World’s Fair.
