Release by Skira of Vincent Perez‘s latest book: Ombres et Lumières /Light and Shadows. It is presented as follows:
Actor Vincent Perez (born in Switzerland in 1964) first studied photography in Vevey before moving on to theater acting in Geneva and then at the CNSAD in Paris. He then became a student of Patrice Chéreau at the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers.
His passion for photography never left him. Over the years, he has established himself as an accomplished and recognized photographer, focusing his research on portraiture. He published his first book of photographs, A Journey to Russia, in 2017.
In this new work, Vincent Perez turns his attention to one of the most emblematic places of artistic bohemia in Paris: La Grande Chaumière. This art school, whose teaching moved away from the strict academic principles of the École des Beaux-Arts to encourage a form of artistic freedom, trained 20th century artists as different as Louise Bourgeois, Miró and Zao Wou- Ki.
The film nudes of Vincent Perez, produced in the studio, not only pay homage to the countless models who populated the life and history of the Grande Chaumière, but also raise the question of how to appropriate this artistic genre par excellence. in the post #MeToo era.
Texts by Jean-Luc Monterosso – one of the founders of the European House of Photography accompany the photographs.
