I photographed the Tel Aviv beach, the release, a possible elsewhere… Pictures in a suspended state , in an unsure balance, including in their dynamic the reflections of a tension that the extreme relaxation reveals.
But by instinct I had found my project unbalanced: I had to also capture the same way of life from the Palestinian side… Luck helped me there: going out of my way at night between Jaffa and Tel Aviv, I saw Palestinian families on the beaches that the Israelis used during the day…
The territorial solution had been found here, spontaneously, without formality, a kind of communicating vase, fluid and effective, releasing a form of harmony, completely unsuspected.
There was even a mixed hour, at sunset, where Arabs and Jews shared the same beach… A sort of peace, lived daily, a sort of anti-photograph of the traditional press scene.
As a way to see “Beyond the wall”…
