Roger-Viollet Gallery : Gaston Paris : The Fantastic Eye

Preview

Wonderful, this revival of Gaston Paris that we are currently witnessing! In addition to the Centre Pompidou, it is at the Galerie Roger-Viollet that you can also see his pictures.

Gaston Paris (1903-1964) had an impressive photographic oeuvre both by its style and by the diversity of the subjects it represents, from the festive intoxication of the thirties to the difficulties of the post-second world War.
The world is a theatre, the black and white images seem to tell us… A theater where multiple scenes are played out, of love, of joy but also of labor or even of waiting and hope.
Portraits of anonymous people rub shoulders with those of celebrities (Edith Piaf, Joséphine Baker, Brigitte Bardot), they merge with images of wax models, whose disarticulated bodies are reminiscent of Surrealism. His urban and industrial landscapes, always very graphic, are composed to perfection in the square frame determined by the systematic choice of a Rolleiflex camera.
The Galerie Roger-Viollet presents for the first time the work of Gaston Paris through a hanging of 80 exceptional modern prints.
