The Inside Out Centre for the Arts, founded by Roger Ballen in 2022, is a non-profit space in Johannesburg’s Forest Town that explores African issues through visual culture. The Centre aims to combine historical and contemporary material – blending photography, objects, and film to address questions of identity, environment, and human-animal relationships. The standing exhibition, End of the Game, juxtaposes Ballen’s own photography and installation work with archival prints and artifacts to examine the history of hunting and its impact on wildlife. Alongside its exhibitions, the Centre hosts talks, masterclasses, and public programmes that create a forum for critical reflection on photography and its role in shaping narratives about Africa.
