Renée Jacobs & Photos de Femmes Announce seeingWOMEN2020 Award Winners

Photos de Femmes has announced the winners of its seeingWOMEN 2020 Awards. Co-Grand Prize Winners Françoise Holtzmacher (Belgium) and Tom Chambers (America) will each receive one week Artist’s Residencies at Maison des Rêves in the south of France. Photos de Femmes was founded to promote empowering images of women and girls. Juror Renée Jacobs, the award winning photographer and Executive Director of Photos de Femmes, says of the winners, “These two Grand Prize Winners present images of hope and connection between their subjects and the natural world–powerful statements to ground us in these uncertain times. By pure coincidence, these entries both elevate the promise of what young women can become. Françoise Holtzmacher’s series “At Twelve” beautifully pairs images of her daughter with mystic slices of nature, resulting in poignant diptychs. Tom Chambers’ series “Tales of Heroines” is, also, simply a delight. Examining girls on the wonderland cusp of adulthood in ethereal fairy tale imagery, Tom’s images are a perfect blend of humor and vision.” Photos de Femmes President Wendy Hicks adds, “Our motto is that women can’t be heard if we can’t be seen. There is such obvious intent, authenticity, emotional intelligence in all of the winning images. We are very excited about the way they push forward the dialogue about how women and girls should be portrayed. We are delighted these images represent diversity, power, sensuality, vulnerability and grace.”

The seeingWOMEN 2020 awards accepted entries in five categories to highlight the diversity of women and girls—GRACE, SISTERHOOD, EQUALITY, WILD and FREEDOM– and were open to all photographers worldwide—all genders, all genres, all experience levels working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. The full list of winners can be seen at:
