After 15 years in the little port town of Honfleur in Normandy, the Festival Chroniques Nomades is changing locations and settling in Reims. Claude Geiss, festival artistic director, admits humorously that he is “switching from cider to champagne!”. Le Grenier à sel, the sole exhibition hall for the past 15 years, will change for 10 new locations throughout the cité des sacres. This is the first photography festival to be held in Reims, featuring 15 exhibitions on display from April 14th through May 31st, 2012. Chroniques Nomades has always been devoted to travel pictures: this year the festival theme reflects the sacred city of Reims, focusing on “travels and the sacred”. Pilgrimages, solitary travels to holy locations, spiritual places throughout the world, religious ceremonies from multiple cultures, specifically animist, are among the subjects treated. The festival created, in partnership with the Caisse d’Epargne, the Bourse Chroniques Nomades, aims to fund contemporary creation and help produce photographic stories. This year’s Bourse 2012 was awarded to Ljubiša Danilović.
