Since 2007, NegPos has been offering and hosting a series of exhibitions and photographic activities as part of the Photographic Spring. This one originally positioned between May and July, exists today with ever more intensity, from November to January of each year.
This program takes place in the places managed by the association: the NEGPOS-FOTOLOFT gallery and FAB LAB NEGPOS but also throughout the city in several institutional and educational spaces, regular partners of the event: the University of Nîmes, the House of the Adolescents of the Gard and the Institute for Training Educating Monitors.
On the other hand, through an anchorage in the popular and peripheral neighborhoods of the city of Nîmes, the socio-cultural and educational mission of our association is at the heart of this event.
Exhibitions radiate locally among a large and very different number of publics depending of the context.
Centered around a group of photographers and / or a specific theme, the Photographic Spring also helped to strengthen relations with our foreign partners and to discover in France often for the first time, the photographers of several countries.
Among the countries already invited are: Morocco (2010), Chile (2011) and South Africa (2017).
This year, with Pia Elizondo, associate curator of the event, we chose Mexico. On the one hand, because we have been working together for a long time and also with other Mexican artists such as Lourdes Grobet and Rive Diaz Bernal. On the other hand, because Mexican photography is not necessarily well known in its plurality and in all its quality in France, we decided to account for it in a wide and diverse way.
Coming from different photographic origins and very different aesthetics: from reportage to conceptual, from subjective to documentary, all currents are scanned by the beam of our selection. Thus, the guest artists are Dante Busquets, Rive Diaz Bernal, Pia Elizondo, Federico Gama, Maya Goded, Lourdes Grobet, Raul Ortega and Javier Ramirez Limon as well as the specialist of the history of photography in Mexico, Patricia Mendoza and film director Trisha Ziff,
The program of course, exhibitions, but also a one-day seminar and projections of unpublished documents in France.
