The Planches Contact 2024 jury, chaired by photographer Sarah Moon, awarded this year’s Prix Tremplin Jeunes Talents to Cloé Harent. Her work, which focuses on the fragility and beauty of the biodiversity of the Normandy foreshore, captivated the members of the jury.
Made up of leading figures from the world of photography, the jury carefully considered the 280 entries received for this year’s competition. Five artists were selected for their talent and unique vision: Nicola Fioravanti, Cloé Harent, Maximilien Schaeffer, Rachel Seidu and Marie Wengler. Among them, Cloé Harent stood out for her spontaneity and creativity, offering a poetic vision of iodised micro-landscapes, the fruit of living nature.
“With Cloé Harent, Deauville reveals a world of the infinitely small—mollusks, lichens, and anemones. Her work explores spaces yet untouched by young talents: the ‘tidelands,’ the strandline. This poetic place, where the waves deposit and nurture minuscule life, is a strange witness to geological time.”

The Winner’s Statement
“As soon as I arrived, Laura Serani, whom I think of as my ‘Italian mom,’ took me arm in arm for a walk along the beach. I was fascinated by the seashells I’m not used to seeing in the Southwest, not yet knowing they would become the subject of my series. This residency is truly a gift: meeting photographers from all backgrounds every morning is an invaluable opportunity that nourishes and inspires. With the InCadaquès festival ahead, I already have a natural spot in mind, but I’m open to surprises I might discover there.”

The Tremplin Jeunes Talents Award
The Tremplin Jeunes Talents Award is a competition for photographers and videographers at an early stage in their artistic careers. Each year, selected candidates are invited to a multi-week residency in Deauville, where they are encouraged to capture the essence of the town and its surroundings. This residency program gives participants the freedom to explore the area and create a new series of work, which will be exhibited during the next edition of the Planches Contact festival.
During their residency, artists receive support from the festival team and the City of Deauville. They also have the opportunity to connect with and be inspired by other photographers in residence. This platform provides exceptional visibility and serves as a major boost for their artistic careers.
As a steady element in Deauville’s cultural initiatives, supporting young artists is central to Planches Contact and this competition. Along with a creation grant, participants vie for the Grand Jury Prize and the Public Prize, for which voting is open until January 5, 2025. The works of selected artists are displayed for the duration of the festival, giving the public the chance to discover fresh and daring perspectives on Normandy.
