A certain clarity emanates for Pierre Gonnord’s portraits. Known for his series devoted to the wretched of the Earth: Gypsy nomads, day laborers, immigrants, homeless, miners. Here he is showing lesser-known portraits of young people, even very young people with solemn gazes. The faces, despite their juvenility, are charged with a vital and silent power to which the photographer pays an almost religious respect, with a return to the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, Murillo, and Ribera, casting shadows over his photos to better express the light of the soul. Pierre Gonnord is represented by the gallery Juana de Aizpuru, Madrid.
