The Citadel Miollios in Ajaccio, as part of a development, opening and enhancement project, will be open to the public for the first time this summer. In parallel with the work that will be organized to transform the site, visitors will be able to discover the Citadel through archaeological excavations and even attend many cultural events. Uses will be tested and the precise future of the Citadel can thus be decided.
To support this approach, three calls for creation were launched: a visual art creation residency to produce a work in situ, a photographic commission and also the creation of a night-time cultural event inspired by the history of Napoleon.
In partnership with the Mediterranean Center for Photography, this commission aims to select a photographer to take a series of photographs on the Citadel Miollis in Ajaccio. Candidates are expected to produce a photographic project that takes into account its geographical location, its link with the rest of the city, its history, its future transformation and rehabilitation. As soon as the Citadel opens in 2021, the work will be the subject of an exhibition within the Citadel. Finally, one of the works produced may enter the collection of the Centre Méditerranéen de la Photographie, partner of the project, or that of the City or the SPL.
