PHotoESPAÑA: Yolanda Domínguez, Little Black Dress

Preview

A previously unpublished project that denounces the pressure that the canons of beauty exert on the construction of the female body in a world in which the body has to adapt itself to the dress and not the opposite.

“Little Black Dress” is a fashionista term that refers to a black, short and versatile dress that every woman should have in the back of her closet. For this project, Yolanda Domínguez has selected a Little Black Dress size 38. With this dress she photographed women of all sizes, races and ages in order to generate an imagery that reveals the diversity of the bodies in contrast with the limitations of the dress model. For some women the dress was too small, for others it was too big, but all of them posed with an attitude of power and pride of their body.

The proposal, which has never been seen before, consists of a showing of these images, accessible after passing through an installation of fitting rooms, those symbolic spaces in which people are confronted to the conflict between their own image and that dictated by fashion. The visitors will have to dialogue with such different feelings as complex, desire, guilt and acceptance … To, finally, celebrate diversity.
