His name: Philippe Rameaux.
A passion: the Sahara
He wants to produce four books on the subject.
Aventures photographiques et poétiques au Sahara is a collection of 4 volumes exploring different facets of the Sahara, starting with Algeria and its magnificent and surprising giant dune fields, the Vast Western Erg.
He tells us:
“Capturing the desert in 3 minutes, or less, per shot is a fascinating challenge. Every moment counts in this quest to capture, in a fleeting moment, the beauty of the Sahara.”
“The Sahara is not just an ocean of dunes. It is a place of varied textures and contrasting colors, perfect for exploration also in black and white.”
“When I was first asked to accompany a 4 wheel drive raid in Mauritania, I still had to discover the mysteries of the Sahara. […] I chose to alternate between narration and poetry to convey the emotional essence of this journey.”
“9 million km², does that mean anything to you? A map of the region compared to France allows you to get a more precise idea. […] The mountain ranges in the central Sahara region cover three-quarters of the surface of France, while the surface area of the Saharan ranges are gigantic compared to our metropolitan mountains.”
Philippe Rameaux is a Belgian photographer who invites us to discover the Sahara through his work Photographic and poetic adventures in the Sahara, composed of four volumes. The first volume focuses on the majestic Vast Western Erg in Algeria, with its endless dunes and expanses of sand. Through his photographs and poetic prose, Philippe Rameaux captures the diversity and striking contrasts of the desert. This project, born after overcoming cancer in 2020, is both an artistic exploration and a personal quest, a tribute to the timeless beauty of the Sahara.
