This series was inspired by the Eurythmics hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)”. The images are digital collages that I created using my own photographs. I started working on this series several years ago but the editing didn’t seem to go anywhere even though I thought I had a definite idea of what I wanted to convey. Recently, I returned to the raw material I had. Instantly, something clicked and the collages came to life almost as if by themselves, creating a slightly off-beat, quirky dream-like world that I hope proves to be engaging to even the meticulous observer. Whilst bringing the images to life, I also invited my long-forgotten painting experiments. In order to achieve the painterly effect, I built parts of the collages using many different types of brush strokes. Each collage is an amalgamation of several photographs and manually-added layers of digital painting.
