Monstrum
The fog welcomes me wrapping my steps along the cyclopean walls, I am inside a legend. Erice, land of sacred vestals, of giants, of valiant warriors and brave kings, surprising diaphragm that still unites men to the Gods. In this place, every step is a spell, a time machine that transports our fragile humanity in an immortal dimension. And how extraordinary is this physical space that transcends earthly perception, Monstrum intends to narrate, a long-term project, begun over 10 years ago and not yet completed, with which I wanted to outline a coherent path that profiles the territory avoiding stereotypes, through a stylistic authorial figure that allowed me to capture unique aspects, through photographic images that investigate beyond the material, inspired by nature, the architecture of the place, the atmosphere that pervades it. Monstrum is a long-term project, started more than 10 years ago and not yet completed, with which I wanted to outline a coherent path that profiles the territory avoiding stereotypes, through an authorial style that allowed me to capture unique aspects. A story that alternates between an intimate and at times dramatic vision and the search for a daily spirituality, in a succession of fairy-tale forests and thousand-year-old churches, cyclopean walls and votive candles, an interior exploration of how immense and surprising there is in ordinary things.
I wanted to follow the extraordinary emotion, the one that is not affected by the passage of time, because every remote corner of this small masterpiece belongs to my memory forever.
Monstrum is now also a solo exhibition at the Polo Museale Cordici in Erice, from 08 to 15 August 2021.
