In Mad’s Pictures

“In Mad’s Pictures” is a work made from interweaving of photos of nudes (which I have done in the studio for the last two years for the most part) and photos of works (oil paintings, watercolors, . .) of my wife Madeleine (hence the name of the series), painter, who died five years ago. I was able, with pleasure and emotion, to merge his work and mine.

For certain images, it is a question of simply inserting the bodies into the painting, which thus constitutes a case. For others the nudes are answers to the subject treated, direct or contradictory answers, even humorous. The bodies are sometimes posed in the canvas and left relatively intact, sometimes on the contrary, the colors, first taken in isolation from the canvas, are then embedded in the flesh, penetrating it violently in places and sparing it in others.

Other treatments are sometimes carried out, such as the application to the bodies of various textures photographed by me here and there, the coloring of the bodies, their reinforcement by a slight (digital) penciling of the contours (as opposed to the smoketto!). Sometimes even a few light brush strokes (digital) to better integrate them into the painting.

I must underline the quality of the performance of the models, especially Sandra who appears in all the images. The precision of the poses, the intensity of the expressions and, in general, the commitment of the young woman, are in themselves a performance that greatly contributes to the strength and poetry of this work and ensures its relevance.

The proposed images are visible in the galleries “In Mad’s pictures” for the most part and “Mad’s Back” for some, on the “Mixtures, Inlays, Graphics” page of my site.
