A priori there is nothing common between Paris and Shanghai. Bringing together these two different cities may seem surprising but the confrontation through images seemed particularly interesting because I worked for several years on a project called “Black Light”. It’s a series of books on iconic cities with the spirit of a “crime thriller”.
The “black light” is a perfect oxymoron to give an account of these contradictory and multiple cities. I naturally thought of cities with strong identities, where I often worked: Paris, New York, Lisbon, London, Venice, Tokyo and also Shanghai. My Shanghai project is still under construction but this week celebrating China coincided with the publication of my new book “Paris black light”, the first volume of the “black light” series by Editions de la Martinière.
