Galleria Heino (Helsinki) is presenting a collaborative venture between photographer Elina Brotherus (b.1972) and fashion photographer Kira Gluschkoff (b.1973), both internationally acclaimed and winners of several awards. Posing the question, “How does one person see another?” they have photographed one another. They have also composed pictures together in which both appear in front of the camera.
Brotherus and Gluschkoff sign their works jointly; this kind of collaboration between artists in which the works have two equal creators is rare in contemporary photography. The photographs are taken in places that are significant to the photographers including Paris, Avallon, and Burgundy. The nudity depicted in the photographs refers to the history of art but also makes them virtually timeless. The title, What if? refers to the question, “What if we’d make an exhibition together” – a question asked by other artists when they met at an opening of a gallery. The series consists of 16 photographs of which Galleria Heino will show a comprehensive selection.
