Dilecta presents a monographic exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Nicolas Dhervillers, featuring a body of previously unseen works created especially for the fair.
Through a sensitive approach of archive, he decompartmentalizes the photographic medium by fusing it with drawing. Using images of anonymous photographers who pioneered the great expanses of the USA between 1860 and 1880, visuals that testify of the various “revolutions” – technological and industrial – that transformed these newly-documented territories, the artist aims to echo a collective memory. Faced with the almost erased images of the pastel printing process – sensorially close to cinematic “fade-in-fade-out” – Nicolas Dhervillers invites us to take note of the paradigm shift engendered by our anthropocentric beliefs and, in so doing, to question them.
