The Galerie des femmes Antoinette Fouque (L’Espace des femmes) is holding the exhibition La guerre intérieure, a photo series by Axelle de Russé about sexual violence in the French army. The exhibition is designed by Delphine Henry and runs through April 26th, 2015.
The French army is made up of 15% women, the largest number in Europe. That could sound promising, but the women who dare to enter the closed and masculine world of soldiers often pay a heavy price, from bullying and harassment to assault and rape.
One year ago, the photographer Axelle de Russé began shedding light on their struggle. She met with women who had spoken out against the violence their brothers-in-arms had committed against them. Russé followed them into the privacy of their daily lives, to their homes, their barracks, with their families and on their own.
