Paris : François Delebecque, Marfa, Texas

Preview

French photographer François Delebecque produced his Marfa series in February 2013. It is on show for the first time at gallery Sit Down until 11 June.

These minimalist, carefully framed black and white images depict a rigorous architectural reality where the deserted landscapes are able to express all their poetry.
Delebecque proceeds with some kind of austere inventory, his pure, almost spartan photographs combining aesthetics with a documentary approach. In his hushed images, the photographer takes us on a journey through this surprising open-air city-as-museum.
However, the silence is broken by the video produced by the artist and projected at the exhibition. In this film, the clatter of the unending freight trains that pass through, east to west, a dozen times a day shatter the peacefulness of Marfa, the small city that resembles a movie set.
