The Galerie GAD COLLECTION is showing 20 photographs by the American photographer Ormond Gigli from November 3rd to December 4th 2016.
For Ormond Gigli, everything started in Paris at the beginning of the 1950s. He was staying in a small, cheap hotel near the Porte de Saint-Cloud, where he occupied the loft where he could develop his photos. After a trip to Spain and Portugal, he plucked up the courage to offer his prints to the Paris office of Life Magazine. There he met John Jenkinson who was its director.
After a short conversation, Ormond Gigli took the Metro back to his little hotel. When he arrived, the concierge told him that Life Magazine had just called him. Feverishly, he called John Jenkinson who entrusted him with his first assignment! Ormond Gigli took the Metro back to the Life Magazine office. He was asked to cover the openings of fashion shows and of the latest trends: Schiaparelli, Dior, Fath and all the others. Ormond Gigli had 4 photographs published in Life Magazine, including a two-page centre-spread, in March 1952. That was the start of his great career.
After 70 years of photography, at 91 years of age, Ormond Gigli’s images are being exhibited for the first time in France at the Galerie GADCOLLECTION.
