After the effervescence and the beautiful madness in 2019 of the 25th anniversary of the Rencontres de la jeune photographie internationale which brought together more than a hundred international artists in Niort, in 2020 the soufflé fell to its lowest point with the postponement of the totality of the 2020 Meetings in 2021 because of this damn Covid-19.
So it’s a somewhat special 2021 edition this year. The programming largely resumes that planned for 2020 with some modifications: the exhibition of our mentor JH ENGSTRÖM presented during the three months following the first confinement will no longer be visible. , Neus SOLÀ who was on the program of artists in creation residency will not be present, but for her a happy event is planned in April …
It is an augmented programming that is offered to you:
- In order to fill the gap in JH ENGSTRÖM’s exhibition, we are inventing a new way of presenting his work with the help of Brigitte Patient: the photographic scene of JH ENGSTRÖM, a dialogue on stage between JH and Brigitte with a few surprises.
- We could not exhibit in the gallery of the Villa Pérochon this year because of renovation works … but due to covid the postponement of three months of works gives us the possibility of using it. This will be an opportunity to present the “fruit” of this first confinement which, thanks to the Girls in Photography and the Diagonal network, allowed me to read 300 files using the e-read format.
What’s left? is the title of this exhibition which presents four authors whose files I have appreciated: Claire DORN, Myriem KARIM, Raphaëlle PERIA, Clarisse REBOTIER.
- You will discover a new gallery in a marvelous bucolic setting: the Desmettre gallery with which will introduce you to the latest works by Karine PORTAL that we received during her residency in 2005.
- Finally, a brand new partner in a brand new place in Niort, L’îlot Sauvage, located in Port Boinot, the new spot that brings together: culture, conviviality, tourism and nature!
It will be our headquarters, a place to meet photographers, an exhibition of residents in creation, a place for novelties such as the Photographic Scene but also a round table, screenings and frenzied evenings …
