Nice: Five portraits studies

Preview

The Théâtre de la photographie et de l’Images of the city of Nice (France) present until may 12 2013 a journey via portraits by 5 photographers that come from different horizons Bertrand Desprez, Marion Gronier, Byung-Hun Min, Patrick Swirc, et Elene Usdin.

Five ways of presenting the other and his world by five photographers that come from different backgrounds. At the end of the journey is a vision of what we are, what brings us together, what separates us and fascinates us .Portrait photography is a mirror, a window that opens new territories

The photographs of the versatile French artist Bertrand Desprez portraying Japanese youth illustrate the duality of the portrait. In another world, the prolific and renowned French photographer Patrick Swirc shows us the real person behind the façade of celebrity. Then we find the mothers of teen beauty pageants photographed by Marion Gronier in northern France. What’s beautiful is not always colorful and draped in rhinestones. It can also look like the portraits of women taken by Byung-Hun Min: gray, silent, cloaked in a kind of fog that serves as the border between the real world and the imaginary. Elene Usdin, a talented young French photographer, started out with what she had at hand: herself. She proved to be an economic and willing model. In the process, Usdin learned to accept herself for who she was, saving money on both models and therapy.
