Mizuma Gallery

Preview

During MIA&D Fair Singapore, the Mizuma Gallery presents three indonesian photographers (Agan Harahap, Angki Purbandono and Dhanank Pambayun) and one japanese photographer (Yamamoto Masao). Mizuma Art Gallery opened in 1994. Since then it has been presenting artists from Japan and other Asian countries each with a unique voice, whose works aren’t caught up in fleeting trends. Artists such as Aida Makoto, Yamaguchi Akira, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba and many others have now achieved worldwide recognition. We also continue to introduce emerging artists to the international art scene. Keeping up with the rapid expansion of Asia’s contemporary art market, in 2008 Mizuma & One Gallery opened in Beijing and in autumn 2012 Mizuma Gallery Singapore opened in the Gillman Barracks gallery complex.

Agan Harahap
As an artist, Agan Harahap has a unique sense of humor. He has been studying and working as a photographer since his days in university. The artist is fascinated with the art of photo manipulation, thus his photography works often combines his photographs and a few others in a mindblowingly believable scene. Agan’s artworks are his response to the social happening around the world and he definitely knows how to engage the viewer through his intriguing artworks.

Angki Purbandono
Angki Purbandono, one of Indonesia’s leading photography artists, has been working with scanography as his primary media for eight years. His transition from camera to scanner is inspired by Man Ray, a 20th century modernist artist known for his photography work with different media approaches other than the camera. Angki still considers himself as a photography artist despite the medium he works with, because he believes that the essence of photography as an art lies in the story behind.

Yamamoto Masao
Yamamoto Masao’s artwork is refined, subtle and powerful at the same time. His works are often small scale in prints, sometimes
even minuscule, thus one needs a profound observation to enjoy it. The artist’s technique and manual modification results in the impression of the marking of time. It provides an experimental look of the artwork.  For Yamamoto, harmony is a constant interaction between man and nature. Yamamoto’s work is heavily anchored in direct relationship with his environment.

Dhanank Pambayun
Dhanank Pambayun is a digital illustrator who lives in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. His work is composed of complex compositions with a high level of details. Each piece combines vintage looks, disharmony, rich color, and both surreal and grunge effects. His artwork has been featured in outstanding graphic magazines and websites, as well as in commissioned work for major brands.
