Milan 2012 – Oltredimore

Preview

OltreDimore main purpose is to promote and sustain young but promising artists to show off their creativity.
OltreDimore philosophy is to focus on a few projects in order to look after them in the best possible way and during all their different phases, through site-specific installations, catalogues, openings, press office and partnerships with Italian and European art galleries.
OltreDimore team loves to work enjoying itself and seeks to generate a positive synergy with the artist in order to grow together, always trying to impress and surprise. Our talented artists are willing to put themselves in the game, under the guidance of the gallery.
OltreDimore keeps on evaluating new artists and creating links with public and private places. We also look for non-conventional venues to exhibit – such as architects/lawyers/designers studios – in order to spread the habit of beauty and art in daily life.

OltreDimore participates to MIA 2012 with two solo stands with two different artists.
Hassan Hajjaj (Stand 70/Pavilion2) was born in Morocco in the early sixties and moved to London when he was 14 years old. Hassan set-up his own fashions label R.A.P. in the 80’s and his creations revealed his capacity to bridge British and Moroccan culture. Progressively, Hassan investigates and translates his background into artworks. His photographs refer to stereotypical imagery such as the Odalisque, a 19th Century symbol of Oriental exoticism, and icons of contemporary fashion. He highlights the power of image and branding, juxtaposing the iconography of contemporary culture and consumerism with classical references. He includes and contrasts visual elements of both Islamic and European culture. Familiar components from contrasting cultures are integrated to create an unexpectedly rich and seductive environment. Frames are an integral part of the photographic image: they are created using modern packaging, which echoes designs such as mosaic patterns. Either through photography or installation, Hassan is keen to explore, the perception/reflection relationship between Orient and Occident.

Gabriele Corni (Stand72/Pavilion2) is currently working and living in Bologna, his hometown.
After his artistic studies and his experiences with oil painting and sculpture, he moved to photography. Collaborating with post production expert Giulio Pedaci and using post production tools, such as digital painting and digital alteration; Gabriele Corni explores the subject of pictorial expression, which does not exclude, rather widens, plasticity. After participating in various group shows, Gabriele had his first solo exhibition at OltreDimore, with his project Adoperabili; which will be partially presented again at MIA.
