Doublestik series
At a certain point in my journey as a photographer I felt the need to make something unique, something that stands out, hasn’t been done before. I saw that many people were using clouds as a layer to add atmosphere and while l like the effect I felt that I needed to find some other natural texture layer. I had been shooting sand or beach vignettes for many years being attracted to the ever changing seemingly random visuals there. I tried layering these with other images I had and found the whole to be greater than the sum of the parts. I therefore pursued it. Hence the series which is named from the practice of sandwiching two transparencies to make one image which could (theoretically) have been held together by double stick tape.
