For the first time, India is holding a solo exhibition devoted to landscape photographer Michael Kenna. After Bangalore, Delhi and Bombay, Kolkata and Ahmedabad will welcome the exhibition A Journey Through India from Tasveer gallery.
Through the landscapes of India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Korea and Japan, Michael Kenna invites the viewer to contemplate nature at its most extraordinary while seeing how human beings have shaped the landscape. Although devoid of man’s presence, the photos bear his mark: fishing boats on the beaches of Kerala, tea plantations in Munnar or, more explicitly, the Safdarjung mausoleum in Delhi, an exceptional example of 18th century Mughal architecture.
Composed like theatre sets, the photographs, mostly shot at sunrise or sunset, take the world into the Asia of dreams, outside of time. This exhibition is not to be missed.
