(Ni) queue ni tête
In Hans Christian Andersen’s story “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, the emperor is naked. However, even naked, the emperor remains emperor. But what will he be if he also loses his face?
In this series, the faces disappear, hidden by a mask, a cone or any other accessory. Do these characters look at the future, at the past, inside themselves? No one knows. Are they optimistic, resigned, happy or sad? No one knows. Does anybody care? Probably not.
Nudity here does not evoke any sensuality. It strengthens the absurdity of the scenes. Naked, bodies turn into abstract objects, leading the viewer into an unreal world. A Dadaist approach? Maybe.
Is humanity fading as one is deprived of his means of expression? A horse, a frog, a road sign… try to provide some answers.
