Marta Gili studied philosophy and education, specializing in Clinical Psychology. Curator, critic and the author of several books and catalogues, she has served as the director of the Jeu de Paume for the last five years.
“I came to photography rather by chance. When I was 19, I had a job at the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya. Later, while working as a psychologist, I borrowed a colleague’s idea of asking patients to bring in family photos as a means of “triggering” the session by asking them to talk about the images. I began organizing seminars and inviting photographers to attend them. Then I was asked to put one together for the Primavera Fotogràfica de Barcelone (similar to the Mois de la Photo in Paris) and became a critic for various Spanish newspapers.”
