This year, along with Košice (Slovakia), Marseille (France) is the European Capital of Culture. With a program on and around the Mediterranean , various exhibitions and the opening of new cultural institutions, Marseille-Provence 2013 hopes to attract a lot of new visitors. The issues are important for this city, who suffers from a serious ”Marseille-Bashing”, according to its mayor.
For this occasion, Yohanne Lamoulène and Olivier Amsellem present two portraits of the Phocean city. Magnum photographer Josef Koudelka offers a journey into time , of the great ancien sites. Lola Reboud and Malik Nejmi propose two separate points of view on exile, unfamiliar places and migrations. The series Unexposed by Hrair Sarkissian deals with the Armenian genocide, who still remains taboo nowadays. Matthias Olmeta show us his ambrotype masterworks. Archive images, family and holiday pictures are also on view ; like the Sylvie Meunier’s diptychs, recently on view at the Beauvais’s festival.
