For Marion Leleu, self-portraiture is a spontaneous and non-narcissistic practice. It is to be present. And the photographer does not differentiate between the selfie and other photographic genres. It’s a way of not bothering others by taking yourself as the subject. The artist says: “no technique, no lighting. And we erase if it’s not good.” However, if her shots are successful, it’s because she has an eye.
To appeal to the humble is to create instinctively without worrying about posing as an artist. Like the hermits holed up in their caves so that their souls are not blinded by the sun, the Nocturnal revives what is without the delicious poison of nostalgia.
The photographer based in Belgium and who refuses any other exhibitions than her Facebook page thus joins these metaphysical scoundrels who only take from love the accessories. She surveys the moments as they are, seizing without concession what touches her far from any comfort where beauty suddenly takes a new direction.
