Selfportraits

For many years, I have set my body at the centre of my artistic researches, in a crazy attempt to make my life a work of art, a total experiment. Named Like A Boy, this series of selfportraits takes the form a contemporary art performance : radical, as I cut my hair short in front of the camera. Eventually, I aimed at exploring the masculine part in me, at discovering  another Self in the mirror, at experiencing in real life the look of others at myself under this new appearence.

Like A Boy shows undoubtedly a female body, as the primary sexual characters are voluntarily obvious. The secondary sexual characters are masked by a white bandage, fooling no one, though. As for the « social » sexual characters, the idea was to make them disappear, from picture to picture, like the scene / seen of destruction in progress. One can note the will to assert oneself, doubt, radicality, sweetness sometimes : it’s the story of a non linear metamorphosis, an initiation ritual.

Nonetheless, this act that was for me more real than reality itself, I’ve wanted to transpose it out of daily life for you, hence the choice of black and white, of a very minimalist atmosphere, nearly surgical. It’s a clinical  and  aesthetic experience that I’m inviting you to observe.

There’s no answer, really. Was there a question in the first place ?
