Forgotten Paradise : Passage
[photography]
FORGOTTEN PARADISE: PASSAGE, created in collaboration by Malick Welli and Charlotte Brathwaite during their residencies as Artists-in-Residence at Guild Hall of East Hampton, reflects on the histories of enslaved and forcibly displaced peoples within the transatlantic slave trade. It transforms an archive of trauma into a space of healing, reimagining the inner lives of the displaced—acknowledging their dreams, hopes, and resilience. Using symbols like water, flight, and ritual, the series highlights acts of resistance and renewal. The sea, as both witness to history and metaphor for identity, invites reflection on time’s cyclical nature while envisioning futures of unity and healing.
