The Town Hall of 9th at 6, rue Drouot in Paris presents a photo exhibition on Charles Aznavour by Roger Kasparian, the photographer of the Sixties until September 17, 2023.
To honor Charles Aznavour, an internationally renowned artist, viscerally attached to France and Armenia, his homeland country, the Town Hall of the 9th in Paris, in partnership with the Aznavour Foundation, is hosting an exhibition of unpublished photographs by photographer Roger Kasparian .
The history of Charles Aznavour is intimately linked to the 9th arrondissement. He spent his childhood there with his parents at 22, rue de Navarin where they hid during the Second World War people of Jewish origin and Armenians (among them Missak Manouchian and his wife Mélinée). Later, he set up his artist offices in the rue Rossini.
Roger Kasparian was able to follow the singer in the 60s, during rehearsal, on stage, but also with his family and with his artist friends, Johnny Hallyday, Françoise Hardy, Jean Cocteau,… a journey that is both intimate and public. The photographer was able to capture on all occasions the emotions that constantly expressed by the singer’s gaze.
Charles Aznavour’s son, Nicolas, says: “Thanks to his sharp eye and his technical mastery, Roger Kasparian was able to immortalize the key moments that shaped the trajectory of this musical giant” thus paying a double tribute to the photographer and the singer.
Roger Kasparian photographed the most important French artists of music and cinema in the 1960s (Serge Gainsbourg, Johnny Hallyday, Jacques Brel, Claude François, François Hardy, Belmondo, Delon, Catherine Deneuve, Sofia Loren, etc.), until to English and American icons (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull, Dionne Warwick, Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington…), to name but a few…
