In early 2011, the publisher Michael Mack, the entrepreneur John Koh and the designer Jean-Michel Dentand launched MAPP, a digital publishing platform. On the platform are digital-only books, as well as different versions of books published by MACK, often with extra content, available for the almost ridiculous price of 5 – 10£. The small catalogue contains many remarkable works, including Mrs. Merryman’s Collection by Anne Sophie Merryman, Atlas Photographique de la Lune by Maurice Loewy and Pierre Puiseux, and forthcoming titles like Kodachrome by Luigi Ghirri and a retrospective of the work of Paul Graham. According to Michael Mack, several galleries, museums, curators and artists have expressed an interest in making their work available in this format. The MAPP e-books feature expanded captions, audio commentary, interviews with artists, and the making-off used as documentary. Simple but rich in detail, they are available primarily on Apple’s iPad, and can be purchased independently or in addition to a paper version. The design of each e-book meets the high standards set by MACK.
