Lu Guang, winner of the World Press Photo award, vanishes in China

Jean Loh, the correspondent of The Eye of Photography in China and a friend of Lu Guang sent us the following message:

I would like to bring to your attention, with the permission of his wife, of the disappearance of Lu Guang in Xinjiang province, since November 3 we haven’t heard from him.

He went to the area as usual for his work and spoke with local photographers. He had to do a workshop as he knows how to do it and then go back to Sichuan. A photographer with whom he had a meeting in Sichuan on November 5 did not see him arrive and unable to reach him, warned Lu Guang’s wife.

Two days ago, a final opinion of the Association of Photographers of Zhejiang said that “Lu Guang is in good health, that he agreed to cooperate with the investigation”. ‘arrest). He still has not been released.

But the most urgent thing now is that the world of photo and photojournalism be informed of the news in the hope that the international repercussions can contribute to a rapid release and that he can return to his family.
