There is a strong connection between the street and boxing. The road is seen as the first ring in which a young boxer fight to build a future. People are used to think a boxer is like a stray dog that has nothing to do with society. In Italy today lots of things about amateur boxing have changed. Today the boxers fighting in the gyms of the Italian province are mostly children who attend school and who consider amateur boxing a sport like any other but they practice it also to confront their fears. I have been an amateur boxer who fought in northern Italy’s provinces that’s why I like to describe the environment in which I lived and that helped form me first as a person and than as an athlete. That’s why I spent the last two years documenting amateur boxing matches and sharing with the boys that I photographed the moments before and after rising in the ring their fears and their expectations, the desire to get involved and to prove to themselves before the public what they’re able to do.
