Born in 1985, Léo Caillard is a digital native photographer in all its splendor: digital techniques, calling reality into question recognizing the importance of sharing and spreading his work. Caillarrd gives viewers a chance to reflect on the contemporary world. A graduate of the École des Gobelins in 2008, Caillard started out as an assistant to some of the biggest photographers in France and abroad, then moved to New York for a year.
What inspired your work ?
L. Caillard : My series of landscapes was conceived as a panoramic so that it could be viewed from left to right, with a beginning and an end, the opposite of square format photographs. Then the choice of photographs taken across the globe, and along with the relative distance of the subjects, causes the viewer to be disoriented in time. This is a raw look at the world and its different natural and urban spaces. My interest in time goes back to my childhood, when I was fascinated by the sky and stars, and I dreamed of becoming an astronaut. This dream led me to photography, where I continue to seek “the perfect time and space.”
